: CDI Across the Coninuum – Moving to a Patient Centered Solution – Phil Goyeau

Many CDI programs are shifting from focused inpatient reviews to a patient-centric solution that supports all Clinical Documentation Improvement activities beyond the traditional acute care setting. CDI will also continue to expand impact on downstream functions such as coding, case management, and quality, as well as improving the accuracy of data for reporting and analytics.

In this presentation, we will review the latest trends around CDI program expansion into the Ambulatory setting and look at some industry best practices, workflows for document review, performance tracking to ensure quality documentation and compliant coding practices.

My experience over twenty-five years has led me to succeed in roles as a consultant, HIPAA Privacy Officer, Healthcare Compliance Specialist and Director of Health Information Management. In the healthcare compliance arena I have conducted compliance audits as well as created education for facility employees and providers. Through my personal education and experience, I have been introduced to a broad base of knowledge which encompasses management, human diseases, legalities of healthcare, expertise in coding and reimbursement and other healthcare topics. I have to give credit to my first position in the physician practice arena as a medical assistant where I was responsible for many front office functions leading to my varied interests and subsequent education choices and work experiences. I completed my Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance from The George Washington University and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University. My Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration (MRA) was earned at the University of Kansas.

My compliance experience includes coding audits, design and administration of coding training for physicians, staff, and development of physician practice compliance plans. Description
As healthcare organizations take on more financial risk with the advent of value-based care (VBC) and advanced payment models (APMs), coding compliance and clinical documentation integrity will become imperative for optimal reimbursement. In this presentation, the audience will learn how risk adjustment and advanced payment models will become a game changer in the revenue cycle, as upside and downside risk associated with VBC begins to disrupt the current healthcare business model.
