Who We Are

Connecticut Health Information Management Association (CTHIMA), a non-profit organization, is a component state association of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). There are approximately 383 members with an additional 70 certified non-members.

The association represents health information management professionals who are responsible for the management of patient health records in a variety of settings

Members are experts in health information management. Most members are active members of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and hold a variety of credentials issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). These credentials are issued based on examinations which test ones experience, knowledge and education regarding health information.

Credentials offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) are offered in the areas of coding, health care privacy, health care security and records management. For additional information on this exciting profession, please use the AHIMA link on the Related Links page.

Our History

The Connecticut Health Information Management Association was founded in Ponds Point, New Haven, Connecticut on May 26, 1928 and was officially called Connecticut Hospital Historians Association. We have the unique honor of being the oldest chartered state association in the country, founded three months before the American Medical Records Association (AMRA), now known as the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

The Connecticut Health Information Management Association will promote and advance national standards set forth by AHIMA in order to foster excellence through advocacy, professional development, innovation and leadership.
