Ms. Alexander serves as a Senior Consultant at VantagePoint. Prior to joining the firm, she served in hospital-based Health Information Management (HIM) leadership roles. Ms. Alexander also has experience on the health plan side of the industry, including deep knowledge of Medicare payment policies obtained during her tenure as Senior Manager over a Medicare Advantage plan.
Ms. Alexander’s credentials include certification in healthcare compliance (CHC) through the Health Care Compliance Association and certification as a Home Care Coding Specialist- Hospice (HCS-H) through the Association of Home Care Coding and Compliance (AHCC). She is a board-certified fellow (FACHE) in healthcare management through the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds an MBA from The George Washington University. She also serves as an associate faculty member for the University of Phoenix in the College of Health Professions. |

In her role as Vice President of Privacy, Compliance and HIM Policy for MRO, Bowen serves as the company’s Privacy and Compliance Officer (PCO), overseeing the company’s compliance with HIPAA and chairing the organization’s Data Protection Steering Committee. In addition, she ensures new and existing client HIM policies and procedures are to code. She has more than 40 years of experience in Health Information Management (HIM), holding a variety of HIM director and consulting roles. Prior to joining MRO, she was Senior Vice President and Privacy Officer for HealthPort, Inc., now known as CIOX Health. Bowen is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), having served as its President and Board Chair, as a member of the Board of Directors, of the Council on Certification, and various focus and specialty groups, such as privacy. Additionally, Bowen is a former chair for the AHIMA Foundation. She has been honored with AHIMA’s Triumph Award in the mentor category; she is also the recipient of the Distinguished Member Award from AHIMA’s Quality Specialty Group and the Tennessee Health Information Management Association (THIMA). Bowen has served as President for both the Arizona Health Information Management Association (AzHIMA) and THIMA, and served in AHIMA’s House of Delegates. Bowen is an established author and speaker on HIM topics and has taught HIM studies at Chattanooga State and the University of Tennessee Memphis. Dena M. Castricone is a Partner at the law firm of Murtha Cullina LLP. She is the Chair of the Privacy and Cybersecurity group and is a member of the Health Care and Long Term Care groups. Prior to joining Murtha Cullina, Dena served as a law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, Frank J. Williams. Dena handles a broad range of regulatory compliance issues for health care providers. With an extensive background in HIPAA, she also assists health care providers with HIPAA privacy and security compliance, policy development and implementation, training and service as a privacy officer. Additionally, Dena is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and assists businesses and health care organizations with privacy and information security matters. |

Cindy Edgerton, MHA, MEd, RHIA, has 23 years of experience as an educator and Program Director in Health Information Management degree programs. She was very involved in the early days of online education, developing one of the first online HIM associate degree programs. Currently, she is the HIM Program Director at Charter Oak State College. She enjoys mentoring new faculty.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Information Administration with a minor in Management from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. In 2007, she obtained her Master of Education degree with a specialization in Leadership in Higher Education from Capella University. She earned a second master’s degree, in Healthcare Administration, from Kaplan University in 2015. She has been a Registered Health Information Administrator since 1987. |
Jon Elion, MD, FACC Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, Brown University |
Dr. Jon Elion is the founder and CEO of ChartWise Medical Systems. ChartWise was recently honored by KLAS Research as the “Category Leader” in CDI software for the third year in a row. He is a graduate of Brown University (undergraduate and medical school), trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, and in Cardiology at Duke University.
He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Brown University, and still practices Cardiology part-time at The Miriam Hospital in Providence. He has served on hospital Finance and Quality Committees as well as hospital Boards and has chaired several committees to create and demonstrate standards for healthcare information exchange. With over 45 years of experience in computing and more than 30 years of experience in medical computing and information standards, Dr. Elion has committed his career to innovations in high value services and healthcare delivery. |

Kathy Harkness is a graduate of Walden University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ms. Harkness has over 28 years of professional experience in critical care, emergency medicine, cardiac surgery, nursing management, as well as, CDI and Revenue Integrity. Prior to starting with M*Modal as a Client Engagement Executive, she was a Clinical Director with The Advisory Board Company’s Revenue Cycle Solutions Consulting and Management division. In this capacity, Ms. Harkness provided clinical documentation improvement expertise to the physician documentation data analysis process, as well as, leading over 200 one- on-one physician engagement meetings. She served as a subject matter expert for CDI assessments, education and implementation of new CDI programs across the country. |

Tania is a proven EMR project strategist and a dedicated nurse. Using her nursing and HIM background, she has helped lead HIT initiatives, namely EMR implementations in a variety of settings. Gina is a senior manager in the healthcare consulting practice at Baker Newman Noyes specializing in medical billing and coding education, provider education, chart auditing, billing and coding compliance, provider-to –provider practices and billing, chargemaster reviews, and risk adjustment documentation and coding. Gina has been with the firm since 2013, having previously managed the billing compliance and medical audit functions, and conducted education sessions, for a major New England hospital system. She was also previously employed as the director of coding center, which provided chart auditing services, on-site coding education programs, and coding certification courses. |

Tim Keough is vice president at the New Jersey Hospital Association, Healthcare Business Solutions where he leads the health information services consulting division. He has been chair of AHIMA’s Nominating Committee, co-chair of the HOD’s Environmental Scan Team, and a member of the Program Committee. Within NJHIMA, Tim served two terms as president, chaired the Membership and Industry Recognition Task group, served as CoP facilitator and received the 2002 Distinguished Member award. Over the past three years, he has been workgroup co-chair of the NJ Division of Banking and Insurance – NJHA Task Group on ICD-10 Implementation. An accomplished attorney, advocate and author, with rich and diverse experience as legal and compliance counselor to healthcare, insurance, financial services, and manufacturing companies, a former elected state official, a volunteer in public service, and an instructor in legislative process.
At the Connecticut Hospital Association, Carl advises hospitals and other healthcare institutions on all legislative, judicial, and regulatory matters, with special emphasis on patient care regulation, emergency medicine, children’s health, and mental health and substance use issues. He has been a principal spokesperson for the hospital industry with state and federal agencies and other oversight entities on an array of healthcare issues. Carl was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives six times, serving as chairman of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, as Deputy Majority Leader, and Vice Chairman of the Public Health Committee. He also worked in the Connecticut State Senate for six years. Carl is presently a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Connecticut School of Law, teaching legislative process and instructing a legislative field placement program. Carl is a chair of the Connecticut Children’s Behavioral Health Plan Implementation Advisory Board. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, and a Founding Volunteer of the Pro Bono Partnership. In 2017, Carl became a James W. Janice Tarlecki is the director of advance education at Ciox Health. Janice has more than 15 years of HIM experience, concentrating on acute care coding, CDI, recovery audit appeals, coder development, and coder performance improvement. Janice’s interests also include risk adjustment and HCC coding, data analytics, and clinical medicine. Janice has held various roles throughout her career, including director of auditing, coding operations manager, senior coding advisor, and lead auditor/coder for many institutions including level 1 academic trauma centers. Janice’s education experience includes content development and delivery on both a large and small scale to both clients and Ciox staff. |
